The bench outside of Fresh Boutique has become quite an attraction, maybe more-so than the store itself. Since its inception last fall, I would guess that someone has their picture taken on it almost daily. I was considering flower planter boxes in front of the window, then I saw Marty Mummert’s red bench with, “Welcome to Historic Gettysburg”. I thought to myself, a red bench, how cool; A place for men and family to sit and relax while their loved ones shop.
I have had grandmother’s come into my store to show me videos of their granddaughter’s saying “Hello gorgeous” with the drawl of a 1950’s Hollywood movie star; while seated on the bench. I have seen dozens of women lay down on the bench and get their picture taken by their sweetheart. They stand-up, hug him and walk away, hand-in-hand, after a romantic kiss. I have seen girlfriend’s line up side-by-side, giggling, taking pictures one at a time, in a variety of poses full of joy and laughter that can only be felt with your closest friends. I have seen generations of women sitting their; getting their photo taken by the generations of men in their family, with the warmth and love that only a family can bring.
I would have never thought that such a simple idea could have spread the love and happiness of a red bench with two simple words. So why?? Gorgeous is the dazzling beauty that takes your breath away. The word comes from Old French, “Gorgias” meaning elegant. Just the words themselves make you smile as a woman. We all love to hear it, so why not let every woman see it. Nothing makes you feel better about yourself then seeing the words, “Hello gorgeous” whether someone says them or you read them yourself, we all need to feel inspired to be the beautiful self that is within us.
Please share your "Gorgeous" picture of yourself, friends, and family on the bench on our facebook page and tag Fresh Boutique! Show us the share on your next visit to the store and receive $10 off your total purchase!
Be gorgeous everyday,
Happy 4th of July! Let the festivities begin. It is First Friday in downtown Gettysburg, PA and to connect Fresh Boutique with my amazing customers and my local community, I have decided to try my hand at blogging! I have just passed my one year anniversary of being present in downtown Gettysburg, PA. If you don’t know where we are located yet, I am at 28 Chambersburg St, between Christ Lutheran Church and the Christian Book Store. Or for some, across the street from the Blue Parrot Bistro, the James Getty Hotel, and Lord Nelson’s Gallery!
I got asked many times why I opened “Fresh” and do I have a background in fashion? To answer the first, I always had an interest in having a store with all the things I love! Beautiful clothing, fabulous shoes, dynamite jewelry, elegant, fun, and flirty underthings, fragrances, and quirky gifts that I would love to give my girlfriends! Things that just make you laugh, make you feel beautiful, and inspire you to be all that you want to be and above all happiness. I love hearing women say, “I just love coming here and looking at beautiful things.” Then I know I have accomplished my goal! Sometimes, they just need a break from whatever is bothering them, to let their mind wander, and be filled with the textures and visual interest of all the beauty at “Fresh”. To answer part 2, my background…. Well, as a little girl I wanted to be a fashion designer and also a truck driver, but I actually ended up getting my Bachelors of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy and did work in that profession for many years. I spent the last 10 years helping my husband with his excavation business, and more ironically, the last 2 years dispatching trucks for a small trucking company! Needless to say, we liquidated the trucking company, (worst job ever!!!), my sympathies to anyone that is a dispatcher, and I decided to pursue one of my dreams and open Fresh Boutique!
So here we are, a little over a year later, and I still feel inspired to spread fun, beauty, and happiness to my friends, family, and customers by finding delightful things. Items that spark our interest, to give as tokens of our appreciation or to surprise someone special with something sparkly and unique.
Stay tuned for my next blog!
